Apthera, Inc. was founded in July, 2005 to develop and commercialize a pipeline of peptide-based immunotherapies for the adjuvant treatment of HER2-positive cancers. Currently, the Company has products in clinical trials aimed at reducing disease recurrence rates for breast and prostate cancers. Apthera licensed its core intellectual property from The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center (MDACC) in Houston, TX, and The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine, Inc. (HJF) in Rockville, MD.

Members of Apthera’s management team, Drs. Mark Schwartz, William Gannon and Joseph Sinkule have spent their careers actively involved in the biotechnology industry, successfully managing several therapeutic products through the FDA approval process and building an extensive background in oncology (cancer) product development and commercialization. Scientific advisors Drs. George Peoples Constantin Ioannides are internationally recognized experts in their field of onco-peptides and T-cell epitopes. Drs. Peoples and Ioannides have jointly made the key discoveries leading to the patents, research, and clinical trial data surrounding Apthera’s core peptide technology.

Apthera recently announced positive Phase I/II clinical trial results for its lead cancer immunotherapy product, NeuVax™ for the treatment of breast cancer. Planning is underway for a large, international, pivotal Phase III clinical trial of NeuVax for the treatment of early-stage (node-positive) HER2-positive breast cancer. Apthera intends to obtain regulatory approval of NeuVax for the treatment of breast cancer in both the U.S. and international markets.
