Axentis Pharma is a specialty pharmaceutical company whose core competence is the combination of a fully patented, liposome-based drug delivery technology with already established and well-characterized therapeutic agents. Currently, the company exploits its drug delivery technology for the development of AX-TOBRA™, inhalable liposomal tobramycin, which is delivered directly to the site of infections VIA standard nebulizers.
The company’s lead product, AX-TOBRA™, is a clinical Ph 2 stage treatment for pulmonary infections in patients with cystic fibrosis. AX-TOBRA™ has a unique microbiological profile which sets it apart from other antibiotic formulations (including free tobramycin). The most recent orphan drug designation for AX-TOBRA™ relates to Burkholderia cepacia pathogens that can cause lethal infections in cystic fibrosis patients.
