Palau Pharma S.A. (”Palau”) is a product-driven biopharmaceutical company focused on the discovery and development of innovative, improved and safer medicines for the treatment of large and growing markets in which there are unmet medical needs. Specifically, we apply our expertise to build a portfolio of new small-molecule medicines targeting inflammatory and AutoImmune diseases. Palau’s R&D track record, strategy and business model position us as a pioneer and leader in the Spanish biopharmaceutical industry.

We have a broad product portfolio comprised of 10 projects; three in pre-clinical development, six in clinical development, and one, the drug-eluting coronary stent containing triflusal ACTIVE®, already commercialized by one of our partners.

Palau’s primary therapeutic fields of interest, inflammatory and AutoImmune-based pathologies, include diseases such as asthma, allergic rhinitis, rheumatoid arthritis, atopic dermatitis, psoriasis, multiple sclerosis and ulcerative colitis. We will consider development in additional therapeutic fields in which there are both synergies with existing development projects as well as a strong commercial opportunity.

Based in Barcelona, Spain, Palau is a spin-out of Grupo Uriach’s R&D Unit, where Palau’s management team was involved in the discovery, development and launch of the antihistaminic agent Rupafin® (INN rupatadine) amongst others. Our approach has been repeatedly validated through partnering agreements with companies such as Stiefel Laboratories, Schering-Plough and Affectis Pharmaceuticals. Our expertise relies on integrating our knowledge of medicinal chemistry, discovery biology and preclinical pharmacology with a profound understanding of the clinical aspects of inflammatory and AutoImmune diseases. We maintain and implement a commercial perspective that ensures the fast development of innovative Drugs within a patient-focused framework.

Collectively, Palau’s team has over 50 years experience in successfully discovering new Drugs.

More specifically, the R&D process at Palau is based on the intention to develop ”best in class” Drugs that modulate the activity of validated targets by achieving positive differentiation from our competitors’ molecules.

Palau was founded on November 1, 2006. We have been capitalized through a private placement of approximately €40 million. The institutional investors in Palau are Caixa Catalunya, Caja Duero, Najeti Capital, Andosins Capital and Palau’s senior management.
