Dr. von Rueden is a Managing Director in J. Robert Scott’s Education/Not-for-Profit and Life Sciences practices. Rick brings over 25 years of experience as a senior executive and management consultant with top-tier oranizations, including ten years as an executive recruiter focused on the recruitment and retention of Presidents, CEOs, and other senior leaders in life sciences, healthcare, academic, and nonprofit organizations. Based in the Boston office, Rick leads the Education/Not-for-Profit sector globally, including academic medicine and healthcare, and he also helps top life science companies recruit successful leaders and develop outstanding leadership teams.

Dr. von Rueden is a board-certified physician who initially developed his business skills and knowledge with the strategic consulting firm Bain & Company. Working primarily in the life sciences and health care in the U.S. and Europe, he rose to the level of Manager and also held a position as Vice President in Baxter (Travenol) Management Services.

Rick subsequently served as a Senior Vice President at Massachusetts General Hospital, where he provided leadership in the restructuring of management and operations as well as in the development and implementation of major strategic initiatives in healthcare delivery and research. He led efforts such as the introduction of managed care contracting, the formation of the integrated healthcare network Partners Community Healthcare, Inc. (PCHI), and the creation of the Center for Integration of Medicine and innovative Technology (CIMIT).

Prior to joining J. Robert Scott, Rick served as a Partner in leading healthcare consulting and executive recruiting companies. He comes to the firm from another prominent global search firm, where he was in charge of the Boston office and led search work internationally in the life sciences, higher education, nonprofit, and academic medicine/health care sectors.
